Eugen Blaas (1843-1931)
Son of the Viennese Nazarenes painter Carl von Blaas, Eugen obviously lightened up and headed for the sun, becoming a professor at the Accademia in Venice, specializing in local beauties. There are quite a few to be spotted in UK galleries; Blaas' pictures would have appealed to English patrons weaned on the PRB, as his colour and detail are both strong (and remain so -- his technique must have been good).       Works by Blaas at
New Walk Museum and Art Gallery
