This is the catalogue of what was a slightly disappointing exhibition. Marsh
has specialized in women artists and women associated with artists in the
Victorian era. However, the case for some of these was not well made by the
exhibition, let alone by the reproductions in this book, many of which which are
small black-and-white images. On the other hand, some excellent artists (Brickdale, Kate
Bunce, Emma Sandys, Stillman and the unmistakable Evelyn de Morgan) who never quite seem to get
their own monographs, are well-represented and explained; and rightly get the
lioness's share of the (few but excellent) colour illustrations.
