Lewis Carroll   
Pen name of the Oxford academic, Charles Dodgson, best known for his books Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking-Glass, which provided wonderful opportunities for contemporary illustrators, most famously Tenniel.
   Dodgson was also a pioneer of photography, and collaborated with the portraitist Julia Margaret Cameron. Dodgson took many pictures of children, which have been subject to considerable revisionism.
