Punch
At one-time probably the best-known magazine in the English language, Punch ran from 1841 right through the 20th century, latterly reinventing itself -- but not always for the better. It finally ceased publication in 2002. Punch employed many fine cartoonists, such as Tenniel and Linley Sambourne, who also undertook book illustration, an art form embraced even by high-fliers such as Leighton.
The graphics are now the main reason for interest in the cartoons: the humour of the majority has dated badly.
