'The King and Queen of Hearts' 1896

Painted in collaboration with two lady artists (nudge, wink) the work comprises three panels in a frieze. The theme is taken from Alice in Wonderland and executed -- with startling touches of gold paint -- in a style later to become popular for book illustrations.
