Dim-looking girl in a plain but engagingly flimsy classical costume stands among
some ruins: she doesn't seem to be looking anywhere in particular, which makes
the title rather surprising.
Alma Tadema did this sort of thing with more
brio, and in fact he reused the title (substituting "thoughts" for "heart") in
1897. Both titles are misquotations from
Byron.
